A total of 15 passenger help desks are being established at various locations across Kathmandu to assist people traveling home for the upcoming festivals.
Head of the Valley Traffic Police Office, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nawaraj Adhikari, told the media that the traffic police are setting up the help desks in collaboration with Sipradi, the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal, and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
According to him, the help desks will be located at New Bus Park, Nagdhunga, Kalanki, Swayambhu, Halchowk, Machhapokhari, Chabahil, Tilganga, Koteshwor, Jagati, Satdobato, Balkhu, Dakshinkali, Sundhara, and Sanga, and will come into operation from tomorrow.
“The initiative aims to facilitate passengers’ smooth travel, manage traffic congestion, and ensure accident-free festivals with the participation of transport entrepreneurs,” he said.
Each help desk will include officials from the Department of Transport Management, Traffic Police, and transport entrepreneurs. They will monitor whether prescribed fares are being followed and whether two drivers have been arranged for long-distance vehicles, informed Bijaya Bahadur Swar, Chair of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs.
Similarly, the help desks will require ticket counters to publicly display fare rates.
The Traffic Police further stated that they will strictly monitor issues such as vehicle capacity and passenger load, black-market ticket sales, and instances of abandoning passengers before reaching their destinations.
