A vaccination camp against Hepatitis B has started in a remote village of Gorkha, where many people was found infected with the disease.The camp is being conducted at the Rana Vaccination Center in Chumnubri-5, Bihi, a rural municipality located on the border with Tibet, in coordination with the local government and organized by the Kimolung Foundation Nepal from Wednesday.
The camp, which will run for 10 days at various vaccination centers in Wards No. 4 and 5 of Chumnubri, was jointly inaugurated on Wednesday by Nani Babu Dani, Chief of the Immunization Section at the Provincial Public Health Office, Gorkha, and the foundation’s founder president, Wangchuk Rapten Lama.
On the first day of camp, screening was conducted for 58 people, said Lama. Among them, 31 were women and 27 were men. Three individuals (two women and one man) were confirmed to be infected with Hepatitis B.On the first day at Rana Vaccination Center, 44 people received the Hepatitis B vaccine. Of the 11 children under the age of 16 who were tested but not vaccinated, three were found to be infected, according to organizer Wangchuk Rapten of Kimolung Foundation Nepal.
The camp was formally inaugurated under the chairmanship of Ward No. 5 Chairman Kalden Chewang Lama, with the chief guest being Nani Babu Dani, the immunization focal person from the Provincial Public Health Office, Gorkha.
The vaccination camp will be held at Bihi Health Post on thursday. Similarly, the program schedule includes: Kwak villageatSawan 30, Serang Gumba at Bhadra 1 and Bihi again at Bhadra 3 for those who missed earlier campaign.
The camp will be held at Kwak Chhak Health Institution of Ward No. 4 On Bhadra 4 . At Gap Nubri Basic School on Bhadra 5 and at Prok Health Institutionon Bhadra 6 and 7. Similarly, on Bhadra 8, at Namrung and Larke Bazaar Health Postand on Bhadra 9, at Gap Ward Office.
While everyone attending the camp will be screened, the Hepatitis B vaccine will be given only to individuals aged 16 and above. The vaccine is administered in three doses. The second dose will be provided one month after the first and the final dose six months after the first.
Organizer Wangchuk Rapten of Kimolung Foundation Nepal stated that the camp was organized because Hepatitis B infections have been increasingly observed among people living on that region.
He says, …During health checkups for foreign employment, a high number of locals from the area were found infected with Hepatitis B and thus were unable to go abroad for work.ÚThe camp aims to reduce such cases.
