A 13-member Nepali team is set to participate in the 7th Asian Zurkhaneh Sports and Koshti Pahlavani Championship to be held in Urmia, Iran, from October 7 to 11.
According to Arun Prasad Sapkota, an international-level Zurkhaneh and Koshti Pahlavani athlete and coach, the Nepali delegation includes one coach and one team manager. Nepal will compete in both team and individual events, with five athletes participating in the Zurkhaneh team category and five in five different weight divisions of Koshti Pahlavani wrestling.
Coach Sapkota said that despite limited preparation time and the lack of proper training facilities, the team remains determined to deliver a strong performance. He added that if the government provided better management and support, Nepal could achieve greater success and bring home medals in the future.
Sapkota also announced that any medals won by the team this year will be dedicated to the martyrs and injured youths of the recent ‘Gen Z Movement’, expressing condolences to those who lost their lives and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
