The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and TikTok have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote Nepal as one of the world’s premier tourism destinations. Stories highlighting Nepal’s tourism attractions and activities will now be shared via TikTok.
The agreement aims to leverage TikTok’s global popularity to showcase Nepal’s breathtaking landscapes, cultural heritage, festivals, cuisine, and adventure experiences to millions of digital audiences through audiovisual content.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony on Tuesday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, remarked that the agreement was not merely a promotional event but a campaign to connect Nepal with the new digital generation. Noting that today’s youth seek authentic stories and experiences before making travel decisions, the Minister expressed confidence that TikTok would serve as a powerful platform to share Nepal’s unique tourism offerings.
Acknowledging tourism as a major pillar of Nepal’s economic development, Minister Pandey emphasized that the partnership would directly benefit rural communities, small-scale entrepreneurs, and local guides.
“We have long introduced Nepal as the land of mountains and spirituality. But times have changed. Digital platforms have become the first source of information for globetrotters. That is why this partnership with TikTok has paved the way for Nepal to connect with the digital generation,” he stated.
Similarly, NTB’s CEO, Deepak Raj Joshi, described the agreement as a significant step toward presenting Nepal’s beauty to the world. He observed that TikTok’s vast global reach would complement Nepal’s sustained efforts to promote tourism. According to him, this collaboration would not only attract international visitors but also empower Nepali youth to portray their culture, festivals, and experiences in innovative ways.
Under the MoU, NTB will invite international travel content creators to Nepal, facilitating their journeys to mountains, lakes, temples, and homestays so they can produce digital stories that promote Nepal on TikTok.
In turn, TikTok will organize a digital storytelling workshop in Nepal, training local content creators in audience expansion, brand collaboration, and producing high-quality content aligned with international standards.
Fardous Mottakin, TikTok’s Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia, echoed Minister Pandey’s views, stating that the partnership would significantly contribute to Nepal’s tourism promotion. He noted that millions of TikTok users explore new destinations and experiences daily.
“It is an honour for TikTok to share Nepal-a nation rich in mountains, spirituality, and diverse cultures-with the world through short videos. I am confident this partnership will place Nepal firmly on the travel list of global tourists,” Mottakin said.
The promotional campaign will be rolled out in phases throughout the remaining months of 2025.
