A total of 6,110 crime cases were registered across Nepal during the fiscal year 2081/82 up to the month of Ashar, with Kathmandu Valley reporting the highest number of cases, according to the latest data on crime statistics.

Kathmandu Valley alone accounted for 1,602 cases, followed by Madhesh Province (1,198 cases) and Koshi Province (1,014 cases). Lumbini Province recorded 723 cases, Bagmati Province 574, Gandaki Province 373, Sudurpashchim Province 401, and Karnali Province reported the lowest number of cases at 226.

According to the monthly data by Nepal Police shows that crime case registrations in Ashar increased by 12.05 percent compared to Jestha, which saw 5,453 cases.

According to the report, murder cases accounted for 1,042 cases (17.05%), while 777 cases (12.72%) were suicide-related. theft cases were 364 (5.96%), while 2,261 cases (37.00%) were related to organised/financial crimes.

Similarly, 947 cases (15.50%) were related to social offence, 397 cases (6.05%) were related to crime against women and children, 237 cases (3.88%) to vehicular offenses, and 85 cases (1.39%) to various crimes.

The top ten most reported crimes nationwide include banking offenses with 1,373 cases (22.47%), followed by offenses against public interest, health, safety, convenience, and morality with 853 cases (13.96%).

Suicide was the third highest reported crime, followed by narcotics-related cases (518 cases, 8.48%), theft (364 cases, 5.96%), fraud (265 cases, 4.34%).

As many as 211 cases (3.45%) were registered, followed by vehicular manslaughter (185 cases, 3.03%), attempted murder (92 cases, 1.51%), and polygamy (59 cases, 0.97%).

The data highlights that financial crimes and offenses against public welfare remain among the most reported incidents nationwide, while serious violent crimes such as rape and attempted murder also continue to be significant concerns.
