The seventh edition of the five-a-side futsal tournament has started in Kaski district. Held every year for the past seven years, the tournament aims to unite the youth of the Newar community of Gandaki Province, said the organiser, Newa: Lyampuch Kaski. Managed by the Ramkrishna Tole Lyampuch Kaski, the total 16 teams from Kaski district have participated in the three-day competition at the B-Fit Futsal Ground in Ramakrishna Tole. In the opening programme of the tournament on Thursday, Ashok Palikhe, chairperson of the Newa Khal Kaski, said sports tournament is necessary to increase mutual relations within the Newari community.
Similarly, Dev Krishna Parajuli, ward chair of Pokhara Metropolitan City-4, viewed that such community level competition plays a role in the production of national players. Saying such activities are necessary as part of the social responsibility of organisations, President of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry Pawan Prajapati stressed the need for holding youth friendly activities to create an environment conductive for young workforce to engage within the country.
