Goods worth Rs 565.42 billion were imported through the Birgunj customs point in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, according to the Birgunj Customs Office. Among these, imports from India alone accounted for Rs 434.26 billion, or 76.8% of the total imports.
According to the custom office, India continues to be Nepal’s dominant trade partner through Birgunj, handling the majority of both import and export volumes.
Argentina was the second-largest source of imports, with goods worth Rs 46.74 billion (8.27%), followed by China with Rs 28.86 billion (1.22%).
Meanwhile, exports from Nepal through Birgunj totaled Rs 91.51 billion during the same period. Of this, Rs 86.97 billion-95.05%-was exported to India. The United States ranked second with exports worth Rs 2.18 billion (2.38%), and Afghanistan followed with Rs 680 million.
